Migrants: sociologist, a mosaic of vulnerability

"It is necessary to avoid racism and xenophobia."

(ANSA) - KARPACZ, 10 SET - "Isolation and fear has created an image of the enemy and identified him with the migrant. As a result, we usually feel stronger than the migrant, as we think he only needs us. Still, when it comes to workers, we realize that there is a constant need for foreign workers in Western countries. In contrast, the countries of origin of these people are in a structural situation of need for remittances." A sociologist at the University 'La Sapienza' of Rome, Isabella Corvino, said on the sidelines of the panel discussion "Migration in the Time of Pandemic" at Poland's 30th Karpacz Economic Forum.

"Finding a balance between the two subjects - she stressed - will be one of the challenges of our time and Covid: being able to avoid xenophobic and racist drifts at a time when blame-shifting is increasing so much will be a crucial issue." (ANSA).
